Rain Postpones ALCS Game 4 Between Guardians and Rays
Steady precipitation in Cleveland forces a schedule change, pushing subsequent games and eliminating a travel day.
Steady rain in Cleveland has forced Major League Baseball to postpone Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays. The game was originally scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET first pitch on Friday.
The league announced the postponement around 9 p.m. ET after the stadium grounds crew worked to prepare the field. The rescheduling means Game 4 will be played on Saturday, and Game 5 will take place on Sunday. This change eliminates the scheduled off day and travel day for both teams.
If the series extends to its maximum length, the Guardians and Rays will play four consecutive days to determine who advances to the World Series. Games 6 and 7 are already slated to be played on consecutive days, Monday and Tuesday.
Tickets purchased for the original Friday night game will be honored for the rescheduled Game 5 on Sunday, which is now set for a 5 p.m. ET start. Gates are scheduled to open at 2:30 p.m. ET for that contest.
This is the first time a postseason game has been rescheduled due to rain in nearly four years, since Game 3 of the World Series on Halloween in 2022 between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies was pushed to the following day.
