Golfer Jon Rahm is reportedly considering injecting his own finances into the LIV Golf tour, a decision criticized as unsustainable and detrimental to his career. Rahm, who joined the Saudi-backed league for a reported fee exceeding $200 million a few years ago, is now being urged to disassociate from the tour as its funding appears to be faltering.
Sources suggest that with the Saudis withdrawing financial backing and the LIV Tour facing an uncertain future, Rahm is contemplating using his personal wealth to sustain it. This prospect is described as "utterly absurd," particularly as other prominent players like Brooks Koepka have already rejoined the PGA Tour.
Rahm is currently participating in the Genesis Scottish Open, his first appearance in the event since 2022. Critics question when he will acknowledge the lack of a viable future for LIV Golf, a project they argue never gained significant traction, with minimal viewership and player relevance.
While LIV Golf provided Rahm with a career-defining financial windfall, the association is also seen as hindering the prime years of his professional career. The idea of players funding the tour themselves to remain operational is deemed unrealistic. The longer Rahm remains committed to LIV, the more it is suggested he risks damaging his own career trajectory.
