Emma Raducanu has been advised by doctors to withdraw from the upcoming US Open, her management confirmed on August 3, 2026. The decision comes as the British tennis star continues to manage a stress fracture in her lower leg, an injury that also led to her pulling out of Wimbledon.
This latest withdrawal continues a challenging period for Raducanu, who has struggled with a series of injuries and illnesses since her surprising victory at the US Open in 2021. Her season is now at risk of concluding prematurely with the US Open being the final Grand Slam event of the year.
The 23-year-old was recently seen in St. Moritz, Switzerland, posting a video of herself practicing serves while wearing a protective boot on her right leg. Medical assessments following this training have indicated that the injury requires additional time to heal, making her participation in the New York tournament impossible.
This ongoing injury concern is a continuation of a pattern since her 2021 Grand Slam win, during which Raducanu has found it difficult to maintain consistent fitness. The lower leg stress fracture first became apparent when she was seen in a protective boot leaving the All England Club in the week prior to Wimbledon. This followed a bout of viral illness that kept her sidelined for a significant portion of the period between February and May.
Despite these setbacks, Raducanu has shown flashes of her previous form during her limited healthy periods. She reached her first finals since the 2021 US Open title in Cluj, Romania, and at Queen's Club. Her collaboration with coach Andrew Richardson, who guided her to her historic Grand Slam win, has been hampered by these persistent physical issues.
