Pretorius Shatters Gayle's T20 Scoring Record
The young South African batsman smashed an unbeaten 188 to surpass Chris Gayle's previous mark.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius has set a new benchmark for the highest individual score in men's Twenty20 cricket, hitting an undefeated 188 in a domestic fixture in South Africa. The 20-year-old's explosive innings came off 79 deliveries and propelled his team, the Titans, to a formidable total of 267-3 against the Knights in the CSA T20 Challenge.
Pretorius's remarkable score surpassed the previous record of 175, established by Chris Gayle for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2013 Indian Premier League. His knock included 13 sixes and 15 fours, demonstrating a strike rate of 237.97.
The South African batsman reached his half-century in just 24 balls and went on to score his century in a further 16 deliveries. He achieved the 150-run mark in only 58 balls.
Following Pretorius's record-breaking performance, the Titans' bowlers were effective in restricting the Knights, bowling them out for 143 in 17.2 overs. This performance secured an emphatic 124-run victory for the Titans at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
