Premier League Player Issa Diop Declines to Take the Knee
Ipswich Town defender Issa Diop was the sole player on the pitch to remain standing during the anti-racism gesture prior to his team's match against Nottingham Forest.
Ipswich Town defender Issa Diop declined to participate in the Premier League's anti-racism gesture of taking the knee before his team's match against Nottingham Forest on Friday night. Diop was the only player among the 22 on the field not to kneel, while both Nottingham Forest players and his Ipswich teammates took part in the gesture.
Diop's decision aligns with a growing sentiment among some Premier League players who have expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the campaign. The Premier League has designated specific weekends for players to take the knee as part of its ongoing efforts to combat discrimination.
This is not the first instance of a player opting out of the gesture. During a recent round of fixtures, Leeds United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin also remained standing, an action that was met with boos from some sections of the crowd at Elland Road.
