A Premier League linesman, identified as Simon Bennett, has reportedly been suspended as part of an investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior with a woman. Bennett, who is married and earns an annual salary of £110,000, has not officiated any matches this season.

Sources told The Sun that Bennett has closed his social media accounts and has been out of public view since his suspension. The investigation into his conduct has reportedly caused surprise within the refereeing community, given the expectation that officials uphold high standards both on and off the field.

Bennett, 41, last served as a linesman on May 19, 2026, when Manchester United defeated Brighton 3-0 on the final day of the previous season. He has been a Premier League official since 2011 and previously worked as a teacher. His credentials include being a FIFA official since 2013, working at the UEFA European Championship in 2021, and officiating at the FA Cup final.

Pro Ref, the organization responsible for elite referees in England, has declined to comment on the matter. The Football Association has also been contacted for comment.
