Derbyshire Police are investigating allegations of an assault in Derby city centre in connection with the arrest of England cricketer Brydon Carse last weekend. Carse, 31, was taken into custody on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly following an incident outside a nightclub around 4 a.m. on Sunday. He was later de-arrested after agreeing to leave the area, according to police.
The force confirmed on Wednesday that an investigation into an alleged assault had been launched, stating that no arrests have yet been made and the inquiry is ongoing. Police have not specified whether Carse had any involvement in the alleged assault.
Carse had been celebrating Durham's County Championship win over Derbyshire at the time of the incident, alongside former England captain Ben Stokes and bowler Matthew Potts.
Following the arrest, Carse was dropped from the England squad for their second Test match against Pakistan, which commenced on Thursday at Lord's. This incident adds to a series of alcohol-related issues involving England players over the past year.
The independent Cricket Regulator has also initiated its own investigation into the events. England captain Joe Root expressed frustration with the latest off-field controversy, telling reporters that the team must focus on rebuilding public trust. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) declined to comment on the matter.
