During a women's doubles quarterfinal match at Wimbledon on Wednesday, Dutch player Demi Schuurs collided with a ball girl.
The incident occurred while Schuurs and her partner, Ellen Perez, were facing Shuko Aoyama and Liang En-shuo. As Schuurs attempted to return a deep shot, she ran into the ball girl positioned at the back of the court. The ball girl ducked, and the ball went out of play. Both Schuurs and the ball girl fell to the ground.
Schuurs required medical attention following the collision, receiving treatment from a physio for her arm and knee during a mid-match timeout. The ball girl did not appear to be injured. Schuurs later exchanged a high-five with the ball girl.
Schuurs and Perez ultimately lost the match 6-4, 6-4. Schuurs, ranked No. 23 in women's doubles and a multiple-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist, reached the semifinals at the Australian Open in 2021 and achieved a career-high ranking of No. 7 in 2018.
