Peterborough Owner Sets February Deadline for Top-10 Finish, Threatens Sale

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has stated he will sell his stake in the club if the team does not achieve a top-10 position in League One by February.

The ultimatum comes after a period of fan discontent, exacerbated by a recent four-game winless streak across all competitions, including a 2-0 defeat to Bradford City in the Carabao Cup fourth round. MacAnthony made the declaration on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in response to an annoyed supporter.

"My promise to you the fans is always honesty, so I make a promise that if this squad isn't top 10 by February, I'll put my share of the club up for sale & let others take the baton with our wonderful club," MacAnthony wrote.

Under new manager Robbie Savage, who was controversially appointed earlier this month, Peterborough currently sits in 21st place in League One, with 10 points after 12 matches. They are eight points adrift of 10th-placed Mansfield Town, who have played one fewer game. As it stands, Peterborough occupies a relegation spot.

MacAnthony, who became the youngest chairman in EFL history when he acquired Peterborough at age 30 in 2006, holds a 75 percent majority share in the club. Minority investors Gary Graham and Greg Barr own 20 percent, with IRC Investments Limited holding the remaining 5 percent.

MacAnthony expressed confidence in the current squad and Savage's ability to improve their performance. The team's next opportunity to turn their fortunes around will be on Saturday when they host Luton in a League One fixture.
