Patriots' Mack Hollins Fined Twice on Single Play for Taunting and Unnecessary Roughness
The wide receiver lost a total of $34,441 for his actions during a Week 3 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
New England Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins has been fined a combined $34,441 by the NFL for two separate infractions on the same play during the team's Week 3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The league issued fines of $11,941 for taunting and $22,500 for unnecessary roughness.
The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of the game when Hollins made a nine-yard reception, bringing the Patriots to the Jaguars' seven-yard line. Following the catch, Hollins directed a "too small" gesture toward Jaguars safety Eric Murray. Officials flagged Hollins for taunting, a penalty that pushed the Patriots back to the 22-yard line and resulted in a field goal attempt.
While the taunting penalty was immediately called, the unnecessary roughness fine was added after a review determined Hollins used his helmet improperly during the play.
This is not the first time Hollins has been penalized for taunting; he was fined twice for similar actions following a game against the Denver Broncos in January 2025.
The fines against Hollins come amid a broader trend of increased penalties for player conduct this season. Notably, San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk was fined $14,926 for his touchdown celebration in Week 2, which the NFL deemed an "offensive demonstration." Juszczyk has reportedly appealed this fine, stating he does not consume beer.
