Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been medically cleared to fully participate in training camp, marking a significant step in his recovery from a season-ending left knee injury sustained last December. His wife, Brittany Mahomes, shared her relief and gratitude on social media upon seeing him return to the field.
Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14. The injury prematurely ended his season and contributed to the Chiefs missing the playoffs for the first time during his tenure.
Taking to her Instagram story, Brittany Mahomes reshared a team video of her husband arriving at Missouri Western State's campus for training camp. "Seeing him back doing what he loves,” she wrote, adding, “So thankful 🙏."
Mahomes himself expressed optimism about his return. "I feel stronger than I’ve ever felt, as far as strength and lifting [weights],” he said Friday. “I feel amazing. … I’m excited just to be able to play football.” He described his rehabilitation process, which involved daily work in Kansas City, and conveyed his eagerness to rejoin his teammates on the practice field.
The Chiefs' medical staff and Dr. Dan Cooper, the head team physician for the Dallas Cowboys who performed Mahomes' surgery, gave him the green light on Wednesday. Head Coach Andy Reid echoed the positive outlook, stating, “I’m optimistic and I know he is. He’s extremely optimistic. But I think you’ve got to see how things go. Let’s just see where we’re at and not make any predictions or anything else. Take it day by day and see where it goes.”
Mahomes has stated his determination to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season, when the Chiefs are scheduled to host the Denver Broncos. The quarterback's recovery progress will be closely monitored as training camp progresses.
