Scottish para-athlete Melanie Woods must re-race the Commonwealth Games women’s 1500m T54 event after an appeal was lodged following a first-lap crash. The decision means Woods, who had crossed the finish line first and set a new Games record, faces losing her gold medal and the record.

The incident occurred during the race at Scotstoun. Canada's Nandini Sharma, who finished second, was initially disqualified for her role in the crash. However, following appeals from Canada, Australia, and Mauritius, the para-athletics authorities have ordered the race to be restaged.

Woods, 31, had secured victory ahead of England's Ellis Kottas and Australia's Mikaela Dingley. The medal ceremony had not yet taken place, so no athletes were formally presented with medals.

Melanie Woods is scheduled to compete in the 400m event on Friday as well, with the heats beginning approximately 90 minutes after the replayed 1500m final. Woods sustained a severe injury in 2018 when she was hit by a car while cycling, which led to her using a wheelchair. Team Scotland has stated that Woods and teammate Joanna Robertson will prepare for the rerun.
