San Diego Padres pitcher Randy Vasquez was taken to the hospital after fainting on his way to an X-ray room following a medical emergency during Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

Vasquez was struck by a line drive off the bat of Mookie Betts that hit his right ankle. Despite the impact, he initially remained in the game and completed three innings, allowing four runs on 50 pitches. It was after he was removed from the game that Vasquez reportedly fainted while being escorted to an X-ray.

"That's great news in what could have been a really scary situation and definitely caught everybody off-guard," Padres manager Craig Stammen said on MLB Network Radio. "But glad Randy's doing well, and X-rays were negative and all the tests came back pretty clean."

Vasquez has since been discharged from the hospital. It remains unclear when he will return to pitching.

This season, Vasquez has struggled with opponents hitting .296 against him, a significant increase from last year. While his walk rate has dropped and his strikeout rate has improved, he has been susceptible to hits. The Padres lost Thursday's game 12-7, extending their losing streak to six games and dropping their season record to 43-43. The Dodgers improved to 57-31 with the win.
