San Diego Padres fans are the heavier drinkers when comparing the fan bases of the Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to a recent survey. The analysis, which examined habits of nearly 3,500 U.S. MLB fans, found that Padres fans consume more alcohol both before and during games.

Padres fans ranked tied for 10th in Major League Baseball for the average number of alcoholic drinks consumed during games. Approximately 2.69% of Padres fans reported having at least one drink during a game, and 9.2% reported having five or more drinks. In contrast, Dodgers fans averaged 1.7 drinks per game, tying them for 24th in MLB. While 67% of Dodgers fans had at least one drink during games, only 4.9% reported having five or more.

Pre-game Consumption

Before arriving at the ballpark, Padres fans also demonstrated higher alcohol consumption. They averaged 1.3 drinks before games, placing them fifth in MLB for pre-game drinking. Half of Padres fans reported having at least one drink before entering the stadium, and 8.40% had already consumed five or more drinks. Dodgers fans averaged 0.9 alcoholic beverages before games, tying them for 22nd in MLB. Thirty-seven percent of Dodgers fans reported drinking before arriving at the stadium, with 5% having already had five or more drinks.

The findings come as the two National League West rivals are set to begin a three-game series on June 26 at Petco Park in San Diego. The survey suggests that regardless of the series' outcome, Padres fans have a clear lead over Dodgers fans in terms of alcohol consumption.
