The Green Bay Packers' starting lineup, led by quarterback Jordan Love, is slated to play in the opening series of their preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that his starters would get some initial snaps before being replaced. Love is anticipated to lead the team on at least one scoring drive to begin the game.
In contrast, the Steelers have confirmed that most of their starters will not participate in this initial preseason contest. The playing time for Pittsburgh's backup quarterbacks, such as Tyrod Taylor, remains a point of interest, though the Packers' backups are expected to see significant action throughout the game.
Lions vs. Bengals
The Detroit Lions are preparing to face the Cincinnati Bengals in a preseason game where significant playing time for starting quarterbacks Jared Goff and Joe Burrow is not expected. The Lions have recently signed Joshua Dobbs, who previously worked with the Lions' new offensive coordinator, Drew Petzing, in Arizona during the 2023 season. The team may also give work to quarterback Luke Altmyer as he competes for the No. 2 spot.
The Bengals' backup quarterback situation includes veteran Joe Flacco, whose required preseason work is likely minimal due to his age and experience. Josh Johnson and Sean Clifford are expected to see time under center for Cincinnati.
Cardinals and Raiders Matchup
The Arizona Cardinals have already played in the Hall of Fame Game, where Carson Beck started at quarterback. It is uncertain if Beck will play in the upcoming game, or if Gardner Minshew will receive opportunities. Beck's debut saw him complete 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown. The game also presents an opportunity to observe Jacoby Brissett, Minshew, and potentially Jeremiyah Love, while Marvin Harrison Jr. is expected to be on the field.
The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to feature their No. 1 overall pick, Fernando Mendoza, who led his college team to a victory over Beck's team in the College Football Playoff Championship. Mendoza is anticipated to start or play for at least a full quarter or two. Kirk Cousins might also see limited action for the Raiders. This game is projected to have a high number of points scored.
