Own-goal at the death denies Reedijk first win as Hibernian boss
Hibs were denied victory by a late own-goal after taking the lead against St Mirren, a result that leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table.
Hibs manager Marink Reedijk's hopes of securing his first win as Easter Road boss were dashed in the dying moments as a late own-goal salvaged a 1-1 draw for St Mirren.
Given time, Reedijk hopes to mold Hibernian into a well-oiled machine capable of competing at the top of Scotland's top flight, but for now, he will have to settle for a single point from his first three games. Tasked with picking up the pieces following David Gray's departure, Reedijk's start to life at Easter Road has been challenging, with the team rooted to the bottom of the table.
This was an improved performance from Hibs, who ended the evening looking down at Kilmarnock below them, but significant work remains, particularly in the final third.
The first half was largely a poor affair, with neither side registering a shot on target. St Mirren started strongly, with Declan John creating an early opportunity down the left flank, but Luke Thomas fell before he could get a shot away. Hibs showed signs of promise in midfield with the partnership of Miguel Chaiwa and Joe Newell, but the final ball was consistently lacking.
Hibs took the lead 14 minutes from time when Marko Ivezic poked home from close range after St Mirren failed to clear a Nicky Cadden corner. St Mirren came close to an immediate equalizer through substitute Jake Thomas, but his driven cross narrowly missed Samuel Ramos at the back post.
The Edinburgh side's habit of conceding at crucial moments resurfaced when Jason Kerr diverted the ball into his own net following a scramble in the box, gifting St Mirren a point. St Mirren had a chance to snatch victory at the death, but Thomas fired straight at goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger from a tight angle.
