Oregon, ranked No. 6 in the nation, suffered a historic 39-31 upset loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday in Stillwater. The defeat is a significant blow to the Ducks' College Football Playoff aspirations.
Oklahoma State entered the game with a 21-game losing streak against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams. This victory marks the first time in history an FBS team has ended a losing streak of 10 or more games by defeating a top-10 opponent, according to ESPN.
The Cowboys' last win prior to Saturday was in their season opener last year against UT Martin. The win over Oregon, however, prompted fans to storm the field in celebration.
"I don’t know if I can top this. I’m not going to retire, but I might think about it tonight," Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris told reporters after the game.
Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker completed 317 passing yards, throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions. Running back Caleb Hawkins and Mestemaker also contributed significantly, each rushing for over 100 yards and scoring a touchdown.
