Ollie Robinson is performing at the "peak of his powers," according to his England teammate Dan Lawrence, who witnessed Robinson strike twice in the opening over of Pakistan's second innings at Edgbaston. Lawrence stated that when Robinson is bowling with consistent accuracy, it makes the fielding side feel "in the game."
Robinson's wickets in the series now total 21, at an average of just 6.66 runs per wicket. Bad weather prematurely ended play, leaving Pakistan at 52 for two, needing 268 more runs to force England to bat again. Joe Root's England side is aiming for a 3-0 series whitewash.
Lawrence, who scored 65 runs off 82 balls in England's innings of 453, also reflected on his own performance. With three half-centuries in four innings, the 29-year-old believes he may have done enough to secure a place on the winter tour of South Africa. He acknowledged that future selection decisions rest with the selectors and captain, but expressed satisfaction with his contributions.
"I felt like I was playing really nicely and it was a really good surface to bat on against a tiring attack," Lawrence said. "I thought I was going to make a really big score to be honest, but it wasn't meant to be."
Surrey teammate Jamie Smith also scored a half-century but was unable to keep wicket due to a dislocated finger. Jordan Cox will keep wicket for the remainder of the match. The series appears set to conclude on Friday, potentially marking the beginning of the post-Bazball era with a clean sweep for England.
