Nottingham Forest has appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, making him the fifth manager to lead the club in less than a year. Glasner, who previously managed Crystal Palace, replaces Vitor Pereira, who was dismissed on Tuesday.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis expressed confidence in Glasner, stating, "Oliver is a winner. It was clear that we share the same vision, the same ambition and the same relentless desire to succeed." Glasner, 51, departed Crystal Palace at the end of the last season. He was initially contacted by Forest earlier in the summer.
Glasner's appointment continues a period of managerial turnover for Nottingham Forest. Nuno Espirito Santo started the previous season as manager, followed by interim spells from Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche, and Pereira since September. Pereira had replaced Dyche in February and guided Forest to 16th place in the Premier League, securing safety five points above the relegation zone. The team also reached the Europa League semi-finals under his tenure.
During his time at Crystal Palace, Glasner led the team to their first major honor in his debut season, winning the FA Cup. He also secured the Europa Conference League title and the Community Shield in August, defeating Liverpool on penalties. Glasner had indicated in January his intention to leave Palace for a new challenge, despite being offered an extended contract.
"From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident to me that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together over the long term," Glasner said. "That trust and shared commitment, together with the potential that I see within the squad, were key factors for me and I am excited about what we can achieve together."
Glasner is recognized for his success in European competitions, being one of three coaches to win both the Europa League and the Conference League. He achieved this with Eintracht Frankfurt, winning the Europa League in the 2021-22 season.
Marinakis further elaborated on the club's aspirations, noting Glasner's track record. "He has consistently demonstrated throughout his career that he can build outstanding teams and deliver success against the strongest competition," Marinakis stated. "He has earned success through his leadership, his personality and the style of football his teams play." The owner reiterated the club's ambition to re-establish Nottingham Forest among England and Europe's leading clubs, aiming not just to compete but to win major honors and build a club that supporters can be proud of.
