Ole Miss Victory Propels Team to Top 5, LSU Falls to 10th in AP Poll
The SEC dominates the rankings with 10 teams, while Florida and Mississippi State make their season debuts.
Lane Kiffin and LSU have fallen to 10th in the Associated Press Poll following their Saturday night defeat by Ole Miss. The Rebels, led by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, have been rewarded for their victory with a spot in the top five, moving to No. 4 in the rankings.
This marks Ole Miss's first top-five ranking since the final poll last season, where they were ranked No. 3. LSU's loss caused them to drop three spots from their previous position. Texas maintains the No. 1 ranking for the second consecutive week, securing 58 out of 69 first-place votes after defeating UTSA 30-6. Georgia, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Indiana round out the top five.
Louisville saw the most significant rise in the rankings, climbing seven spots to No. 16 after a 41-31 win over SMU, which dropped six places to No. 22. In contrast, Texas A&M experienced the largest fall, moving from No. 9 to No. 23 after an unexpected 31-21 home loss to an unranked Kentucky.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) now boasts 10 teams within the Top 25, a number that has appeared historically in the poll. The SEC previously set a record with 11 ranked teams in consecutive polls last September.
Florida, now ranked No. 21, makes its season debut in the rankings following a 44-39 road victory over Auburn. The Gators are currently 3-0, their first undefeated start since 2019, and have returned to the Top 25 for the first time since September 2, 2025.
Mississippi State, ranked No. 24, also enters the Top 25 for the first time since 2022. The Bulldogs, under coach Jeff Lebby and quarterback Kamario Taylor, have secured back-to-back road wins for the first time since 2014, including a 41-34 comeback victory over South Carolina after trailing by 16 points.
Oklahoma, which had been ranked No. 24, dropped out of the top 25 after a narrow 14-6 win over New Mexico that highlighted offensive struggles. Virginia also fell out of the rankings after its 38-27 loss to West Virginia, having been ranked No. 25 for the previous two weeks.
