Ohio State Quarterback Julian Sayin Out Indefinitely With Shoulder Injury

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced that quarterback Julian Sayin will be sidelined indefinitely due to a shoulder injury. The team is preparing for the possibility that Sayin will not be available for the rest of the regular season, and potentially the College Football Playoff.

Day initially indicated that Sayin would miss "several weeks" after sustaining the injury to his throwing shoulder during the Buckeyes' recent victory over Indiana. "First off, we’re not going to put any timeline on his recovery, but he is out indefinitely," Day told reporters. "So, what we’re trying to do is give Julian and his family some privacy to go through this process."

True freshman Luke Fahey, who took over after Sayin was injured in the fourth quarter, will continue as the Buckeyes' starting quarterback. The team has a bye week before traveling to face No. 16 USC for a Halloween matchup.

"When Luke's in there, we just may need to do things just a little bit differently, but the bye week gives us a chance to regroup on that and put our heads together," Day said.

Sayin's injury occurred when he was sacked by Indiana defender Mario Landino, resulting in a fumble. Sayin was later seen with his arm in a sling. While the specific injury has not been detailed, the team's preparation for his extended absence suggests its severity.

Prior to the injury, Sayin, who was considered a top NFL Draft prospect, had thrown for 1,772 yards with 17 touchdowns and two interceptions this season. Day expressed confidence in Fahey, describing him as a "competitive kid" with "confidence" and "athletic ability."
