Odell Beckham Jr. Joins Vikings Practice Squad
Veteran wide receiver lands with Minnesota after brief, unproductive stint with the New York Giants.
Odell Beckham Jr. has signed with the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad, the team announced Wednesday, seeking to reignite his NFL career after a brief and statistically insignificant return to the New York Giants. The Vikings also signed fellow receiver Jeshaun Jones.
The move comes as the Vikings face a potential void at wide receiver due to an ankle injury sustained by their star player, Justin Jefferson, in Week 3. While Jordan Addison has seen increased targets, no other Vikings receiver has recorded more than two receptions this season.
Beckham's return to the Giants was short-lived. He was activated late in training camp and appeared in three games, but was rarely utilized. He had no receptions on one target over 20 snaps. Beckham expressed disappointment with his role, suggesting the Giants organization gave him little opportunity to make an impact.
"They got me!!!" Beckham wrote on social media regarding his release from the Giants. "I came in HUMBLY, took vet min, then EARNED my spot [and] didn’t say nothing bout no $$$... but it did when they cut me like that cause part of me is like I shoulda known better."
Beckham signed a one-year veteran minimum contract with the Giants this offseason, worth approximately $1.3 million. His signing with the Vikings' practice squad marks a new chapter as the team prepares for a Week 5 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
