Odell Beckham Jr. has returned to the New York Giants, a team he played for during the first five seasons of his NFL career. The wide receiver, whose seemingly impossible one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014 remains one of the sport's most iconic plays, revealed he has a dream of a "Catch 2.0."
"Funny enough, I haven’t told too many people this but I had a huge dream — that there was some kind of catch 2.0," Beckham told Bilt founder and CEO Ankur Jain. "We’ll see what that means. It’s just a dream, but the first tattoo I ever got said ‘Make dreams a reality’ so a lot of mine have come true."
The Giants are scheduled to open their season against the Cowboys on "Sunday Night Football" at MetLife Stadium, a fixture that sets the stage for Beckham's aspirations.
Beckham's comments came as part of an announcement that he is partnering with Bilt for its "Rent Free" collaboration, an initiative naming him an exclusive collaborator. The partnership was announced Monday.
Beckham was originally drafted by the Giants in 2014 and played with the team until he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He expressed that leaving New York was not his initial desire.
"Well first, I never wanted to leave," Beckham stated. "But it’s just my home. There’s no place better than New York. I just want to win one for the Giants more than anything and I’m here to give it my all, give it my heart, during my last couple of years. We’ll see what God got planned."
This return also reunites Beckham with head coach John Harbaugh, who coached him in 2023 during his time with the Baltimore Ravens. Harbaugh commented in June on Beckham's physical condition, noting that the receiver was in "really, really good shape." He added that Beckham understood the need to be a player who could "make a difference in NFL games."
"You have to be that kind of player. Who knows better what kind of player that is than Odell Beckham," Harbaugh said. "I put JuJu [Smith-Schuster] in that same category. They’re different, but the same veteran mindset. He understood that. So get to work. We’re going to find out over the course of the next week and training camp if that’s going to be something he’s going to be able to do for the team. If he can, great. If he can’t, then that’s okay, too. But he’ll have taken his shot."
