Nottingham Forest is preparing to submit an enhanced offer of £45 million for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall. The club had a previous bid of £38 million rejected last week for the 20-year-old.

BBC Sport understands that Bergvall desires a move to the City Ground. He experienced limited playing time at the end of the last season under Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi, often not being deployed in his preferred central midfield role.

Forest's new manager, Oliver Glasner, commented on the club's transfer activity during his initial press conference on Thursday. While not directly referencing Bergvall, Glasner stated, "I have one strength and weakness, it's impatience. Sometimes it's a strength, sometimes it's a weakness. Of course, I would have hoped they already trained with us on the other side. It's impossible because the players we're now talking to they play at the World Cup so are still on vacation. I'm pretty convinced we will have a few players joining us in Portugal [on a training camp]."

Bergvall joined Spurs in 2024 from Swedish club Djurgarden and was named the team's player of the year following his debut Premier League season. Tottenham ended a 17-year trophy drought with victory in the Europa League at the conclusion of that season. He signed a contract extension in April 2025, which runs until 2031.

Last season, Bergvall made 33 appearances for Tottenham but was sidelined for two months due to ankle surgery. He has earned 14 caps for Sweden and participated in the World Cup, where his national team was eliminated in the round of 32 by France.

Forest is reportedly seeking additional midfield reinforcements, in addition to Bergvall, following Elliot Anderson's transfer to Manchester City. However, the club is aiming to prioritize quality over quantity in its signings, avoiding a repeat of the extensive spending seen last summer. The team is also looking to acquire a goalkeeper to provide support for Matz Sels and John Victor, and a striker to complement Chris Wood and Igor Jesus.
