North Texas vs. Tulsa Prediction: Thursday Night College Football Picks, Odds, Best Bet

The North Texas Mean Green will face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Thursday night in a college football contest featuring two teams that have exceeded expectations in the early part of the season. Oddsmakers are finding it difficult to separate the two programs, with Tulsa listed as a 1.5-point favorite at home.

Both teams have achieved significant upsets, positioning themselves to contend in a seemingly weaker-than-anticipated American Athletic Conference (AAC). A victory on Thursday night, with both teams on short rest, would be a crucial step for either program's conference aspirations.

Tulsa, under new head coach Tre Lamb, has shown considerable improvement after a 4-8 record in 2025. The Golden Hurricane managed to upset both Oklahoma State and Oregon State, building momentum that has carried into a 3-1 start for the 2026 season. Despite a challenging transition, Lamb appears to have established a foundation for the team.

North Texas has also navigated significant changes. Following a historic 2025 season, head coach Eric Morris and star quarterback Drew Mestemaker departed for Oklahoma State, taking many key players with them. However, head coach Neal Brown has guided the Mean Green to a respectable position. After an opening week loss to Indiana and a close defeat against Texas State, North Texas delivered a dominant 44-6 victory over UNLV.

The North Texas offense has continued to be potent despite the offseason departures. Quarterback Tayven Jackson, a transfer from Indiana, has performed well, ranking 16th in the FBS in quarterback rating and 12th in passing yards. Running back Jahiem White has also been effective, averaging seven yards per carry behind a rapidly developing offensive line.

A key question mark for Tulsa is the status of quarterback Baylor Hayes, who is considered a game-time decision due to the short week. Even if Hayes plays, North Texas's offense presents a significant challenge. While North Texas's defense has shown vulnerabilities, Tulsa's offense ranks 101st in SP+, which could be further hampered if Hayes is limited or unable to play.

The betting prediction favors North Texas to cover the 1.5-point spread on the road.
