Britain's Cameron Norrie saved a match point on his way to a significant comeback victory over world number seven Alex de Minaur at the Canadian Open. Norrie, ranked 37th in the world, advanced to the fourth round after winning 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 in a match that lasted two hours and 52 minutes.

De Minaur, the third seed, held a commanding lead at one set and 5-2 in the second set, with a double-break advantage. He had a match point on his own serve but ultimately double-faulted. The Australian then served for the match twice, but despite reaching 5-4 in the second set, he double-faulted again, allowing Norrie to level the set.

Norrie ultimately won the tie-break and dominated the deciding set. "It was a great match to win and to test my level, and I can take so much confidence from this one," Norrie said after the match. "The level was so high the first two sets. From the beginning, [de Minaur] came out firing and I had to match it."

This win follows Norrie's appearance in the Los Cabos semi-finals last week. He is scheduled to face Arthur Fils of France in the next round.

De Minaur's early exit from the tournament means that Ben Shelton, the fifth seed, is now the highest-ranked player remaining in the men's singles draw in Montreal. Several other top players, including world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 3 Novak Djokovic, withdrew before the event began. Top seed Alexander Zverev, sixth-ranked Daniil Medvedev, seventh seed Taylor Fritz, and world No. 9 Flavio Cobolli also suffered second-round defeats.
