Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney showcased a remarkable solo effort on the legendary Mont Ventoux, securing her maiden stage victory in the Tour de France Femmes and seizing the coveted yellow jersey. This pivotal moment occurred on stage seven of the race, which featured the formidable climb of Mont Ventoux for the first time in the event's history.

Before the 146.8-kilometer stage from La Voulte-sur-Rhone, Niewiadoma-Phinney, representing Canyon-SRAM, was positioned third in the general classification, trailing race leader Marlen Reusser by one minute and 17 seconds, with Demi Vollering in second place. As the peloton began the arduous ascent, Niewiadoma-Phinney launched a decisive attack with 9 kilometers remaining on the climb.

Her powerful surge saw her pull away from her closest rivals, turning the stage into a direct battle for the overall lead. Niewiadoma-Phinney crossed the finish line at the summit of Mont Ventoux a commanding one minute and 16 seconds ahead of Dutch rider Vollering. Reusser finished an additional 30 seconds behind Vollering, while defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prevot arrived more than 10 minutes later.

Following her triumphant stage win, Niewiadoma-Phinney now holds a 15-second advantage over Vollering in the general classification. Reusser sits in third place, 39 seconds off the lead, with only two stages remaining in the tour.

"I'm blown away with what just happened," Niewiadoma-Phinney stated after the stage. "This victory goes to so many people that were with me along this very long road without proper big wins." She also shared a personal moment, noting the surprise presence of her parents at the base of the climb, with her father visibly emotional. "I was like 'I just need to make them proud'," she added.

The penultimate stage on Saturday is set to be the longest of this year's race, covering 171.9 kilometers from Sisteron to Nice. This largely flat stage is expected to favor sprinters. The overall classification contenders will then face their final challenge in a 99.2-kilometer mountain stage on Sunday, which begins and concludes in Nice, to determine the final winner of the Tour de France Femmes.
