This latest blow makes Bosa one of six defensive players to be ruled out in the past two weeks, adding to an already lengthy list of injured offensive players.
Bosa's injury was first reported by NFL insiders, who indicated he would miss the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals and that his return timeline is still to be determined. The former Defensive Player of the Year's absence is a significant concern for a defense already stretched thin.
In the last fortnight alone, the 49ers' defensive unit has seen Alfred Collins suffer a season-ending torn patellar tendon, Sam Okuayinonu break a foot, James Thompson Jr. sustain a high ankle sprain, Romello Height fracture a hand, and CJ West deal with a bone chip in his knee. Mykel Williams also remains on the PUP list from a torn ACL suffered last season.
Offensively, the team is facing its own challenges. Wide receiver Mike Evans is day-to-day and uncertain for the upcoming game, while Demarcus Robinson is also not practicing due to a high ankle sprain. Rookie receiver De'Zhaun Stribling was injured in Week 1, and Christian Kirk is still several weeks away from returning following knee surgery in mid-August.
The recurring injury issues have fueled long-standing conspiracy theories surrounding the 49ers, with attention previously drawn to a substation located near the team's practice facility. The team conducted an investigation into the substation earlier in the year, prompted by viral social media discussions. General Manager John Lynch described the investigation's findings as a "big nothing burger," with reports indicating that electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure levels were far below safety thresholds.
