The National Football League is making its debut in Australia with a pair of regular-season games between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne.

The novel venture presents significant logistical hurdles for both teams, particularly concerning player acclimatization and managing the effects of long-distance travel across the Pacific.

Melbourne is situated 17 hours ahead of California, where both the Rams and 49ers are based. This time difference has led to contrasting strategies for dealing with jet lag.

The 49ers arrived in Melbourne late last week, allowing players time to adjust to the new environment and practice at a local stadium. This approach prioritizes gradual acclimatization.

The Rams, however, are opting for a more aggressive strategy. They plan to arrive just hours before the game on a chartered Qantas A380, play, and then depart quickly for the U.S. West Coast. This method aims to minimize disruption to players' body clocks but carries the risk of players not fully overcoming jet lag.
