NFL Suspends Two Officials for Conduct Towards Players
Line judge Jeff Seeman receives a two-game ban, while referee Adrian Hill is suspended for one game following separate incidents in Week 4.
The NFL has suspended two officials, line judge Jeff Seeman and referee Adrian Hill, for unprofessional conduct after separate incidents during Week 4 games. The suspensions come after an investigation into "unacceptable" exchanges between officials and players.
Seeman has been banned for two games following footage that showed him engaged in a heated verbal exchange with Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during their game against the New York Giants. The NFL Players' Association called for accountability after the video surfaced, with union executive director J.C. Tretter stating, "This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard."
Hill received a one-game suspension after he reacted angrily when inadvertently knocked to the ground by Minnesota Vikings defender Eric Wilson during their game against the Miami Dolphins. Following the play, Hill got up and yelled in Wilson's face, gesturing for him to return to his team's huddle, though he did not throw a flag.
Wilson later commented on the incident, describing it as "funny" and stating that he had apologized to Hill. He explained that the referee understood the situation and was trying to prevent a confrontation between Wilson and Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon, who had blocked Wilson into the official. Hill reportedly said he was just trying to break them up.
