NFL Slashes Ticket Prices for London Game Amid Sluggish Sales

The NFL has drastically reduced ticket prices for Sunday's game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Commanders in London due to slow sales. League officials implemented significant discounts on remaining seats in an effort to fill the 62,000-capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

According to the Associated Press, approximately 2,000 tickets were unsold just 10 days before kickoff, prompting the price reductions. Original ticket prices, which reached up to £245 ($325), have been lowered to £79 ($105), including those in premium sections. Upper-bowl tickets, initially priced at £185 ($245), were first reduced to £115 ($152) before further cuts to £79. The league is also offering half-price tickets to students as part of its promotional efforts.

This aggressive discounting has caused frustration among UK-based fans who purchased tickets at the original, higher prices. "They don't care about the fans," Andy Burrows, a London native and recognized NFL International Fan of the Year, told the AP. "As long as that place sells out and it looks good on TV, the NFL won't care about us. And I'm not alone. I speak to fans every day."

The NFL International Series is a key initiative for showcasing American football globally, making the prospect of visible empty seats a concern for league executives. Sunday's game marks the 12th regular-season NFL event held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where attendance has historically remained above 60,000.

The match is the first of three consecutive NFL games scheduled in London this season. Two other European fixtures are planned for Madrid and Munich. While the Week 5 game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has sold out, thousands of tickets remain for the Jaguars' Week 6 game against the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium.
