NFL Player Returns to Game After Hospital Visit for Broken Rib

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson was hospitalized with a chest injury during Thursday night's game against the Carolina Panthers, only to return to the field hours later to help secure a 27-19 victory.

Watson sustained the injury in the second quarter while making a 53-yard catch. He described the immediate aftermath as being unable to breathe and spitting up blood, leading to a precautionary CT scan. The scan revealed no internal bleeding but confirmed a broken rib.

"I couldn't breathe on the field," Watson said after the game. "I got the wind knocked out of me. I got back to the sideline and I was kind of spitting up some blood or something like that. So the doctor said I had to go get a CT (scan)."

After spending approximately 45 minutes to an hour at the hospital, Watson was transported back to Lambeau Field. He returned to the game in the third quarter after the CT scan results came back clear of internal bleeding and donned some padding over the broken rib.

"I think it shows resiliency, I think it shows toughness and I think it just shows the love that he has for this team," safety Xavier McKinney commented on Watson's return.

Watson's teammates expressed surprise at his return. "That's some crazy (stuff), right there," safety Javon Bullard remarked. Watson himself likened the experience to professional wrestling, noting the cameras upon his return from the ambulance.

Prior to his injury, Watson had recorded six catches for 100 yards. He finished the game with eight receptions for 113 yards. His return proved critical late in the game when he made a 7-yard reception on a third-and-2 play with approximately 2 1/2 minutes remaining, helping the Packers seal their win.

Watson, who has dealt with various injuries throughout his career, including a torn ACL, emphasized the importance of being on the field. "This means everything to me, to be out there on the football field," he stated.

Carolina Panthers cornerback Will Lee also sustained an injury on the same play as Watson, a hamstring injury, and did not return to the game.
