Concerns have surfaced regarding the influence of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen under new head coach Joe Brady, who was promoted from offensive coordinator. The transition, as the team prepares for their first season under Brady, raises questions about the power dynamic and its potential impact on the coaching staff.

Mike Sando, an NFL insider, noted on "D.A. Live" that coaching a star quarterback like Allen differs significantly from managing the entire team. Sando suggested that under former head coach Sean McDermott, a defensive-minded leader, there was a more established check and balance on Allen's input, even if McDermott accommodated many of the quarterback's preferences.

"I think that is an interesting transition to make, when clearly before with (Bills ex-coach) Sean McDermott, he was in charge, also a defensive pedigree," Sando said. "I’m sure he went along with a lot of stuff Josh Allen wanted to do, but there was a little bit more of a check and balance there, I think. And so now: What does it mean? Is Josh Allen more empowered?"

Whispers within the league suggest that Allen's flexibility in dictating pass protections has, at times, been a source of frustration for the coaching staff in the past. Sando posited that if this empowerment is further enabled under Brady, it could be a "fine-tune change" that might not be optimal for the team's quest for ultimate success.

The Bills moved on from McDermott after nine seasons, which included seven consecutive playoff appearances without advancing to the AFC Championship. Brady, who joined the franchise in 2022, has held roles as both quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator, working closely with Allen. The Athletic reported that Allen was involved in Brady's interview for the head coaching position.

Brady, 36, has expressed his desire to see Allen succeed. "I want Josh Allen to get everything he deserves in this life, in this career," Brady stated in March. "He puts so much into this game, and that all I want is for him to be holding what he deserves."

The Bills are aiming for Brady's leadership to elevate Allen, the 2024 MVP, to new heights, particularly in overcoming AFC playoff hurdles. Buffalo's five-year division title streak concluded last season, and the team was eliminated in overtime in the AFC Divisional Round by the Denver Broncos.
