NFL fans attending the San Francisco 49ers-Los Angeles Rams game in Melbourne, Australia, expressed significant dissatisfaction with the viewing experience, citing distant seats and the unconventional stadium setup.
Videos shared on social media shortly before the game showed fans in what were described as "front row" seats positioned far from the football field. The Melbourne Cricket Ground, a venue primarily used for cricket, features a large playing surface, which left the football field occupying only a portion of the turf. This configuration resulted in even those in the closest available seats being a considerable distance from the action.
One widely circulated post on X, formerly Twitter, highlighted a video of a fan's perspective, with the caption, "Imagine buying front row seats to an NFL game & this is what you get." Another user commented, "The front row in Australia is farther than the nosebleeds in America," and a third declared, "Gotta be the worst front row seats in NFL history."
A snapshot from Netflix's coverage of the game also circulated, illustrating the expanse of the stadium and the distance between fans and the field. One online reaction to this clip stated, "Fans in Australia for this 49ers/Rams game are seated incredibly far away from the field."
Despite the criticisms regarding sightlines, the Melbourne Cricket Ground hosted approximately 100,000 fans for the second game of the NFL season. Earlier in the event, the New York-based band Infinity Song performed the American national anthem, drawing criticism from some viewers on social media who described the performance as the "worst version" and "terrible singing."
