Newcastle United are reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire forward Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool.

The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Nottingham Forest. Kiernan still has over a year remaining on her contract with Liverpool, suggesting that Newcastle, a second-tier club, would need to pay a transfer fee.

Kiernan joined Liverpool five years ago and signed a contract extension in 2025. During her tenure with the Reds, she has scored 23 goals in 76 appearances. She played a significant role in Liverpool's Women's Super League 2 title victory in 2022, finishing as the club's top scorer with 14 goals.

Prior to her move to Liverpool, Kiernan played over 40 games for West Ham in the Women's Super League. Her professional career began at Shelbourne. Since her debut in 2017, she has earned 38 caps for the Republic of Ireland.

However, Kiernan has faced limited game time under Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor, starting only once in the Women's Super League before her loan move to Forest in January. Liverpool has since strengthened their attacking options with the signing of German forward Vivien Endemann from Wolfsburg.

Kiernan's potential arrival would provide attacking depth for Newcastle, who have been active in the transfer window with six new additions as they aim to compete for the WSL 2 title.
