The New York Liberty are confronting their first significant test of the WNBA playoffs after dropping Game 1 of their semifinal series to the Atlanta Dream. The Liberty, who swept the Minnesota Lynx in the first round, lost Sunday's matchup 92-82, falling behind 1-0 in the best-of-five series.
Liberty player Jonquel Jones described a “weird” feeling and uncharacteristic “jitters” among the team heading into the semifinal opener. The loss marked a stark contrast to their dominant first-round performance, where they won by an average of 16 points.
The Dream, however, presented a more formidable challenge. The Liberty now face a situation with little margin for error as they aim to even the series in Game 2.
