New York Knicks Raise Championship Banner in Emotional Home Opener
The Knicks celebrated their first NBA title in 53 years with a ring ceremony and banner-raising before facing LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Madison Square Garden was alight with celebration on opening night of the 2026-27 NBA season as the New York Knicks officially raised their championship banner, marking their first NBA title in 53 years. The emotional ceremony preceded a matchup against LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Players, coaches, and executives received championship rings designed by Jason of Beverly Hills. The rings, crafted from white gold, feature nearly 800 diamonds and sapphires totaling 22 carats, and incorporate intricate designs, including a raised miniature replica of Madison Square Garden's exterior and interior.
Following the ring distribution, Finals MVP Jalen Brunson addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude and the team's desire to replicate the city's summer joy. "The joy this city had this summer, we'd love to replicate that again," Brunson stated.
The ceremony culminated with the unveiling of the '2025-26 World Champions' banner, which ascended to the arena's rafters, a moment that has not occurred at Madison Square Garden for over half a century.
