New York Giants Release Najee Harris After Critical Comments
Running back Najee Harris was released by the New York Giants two days after publicly expressing frustration over his limited playing time and criticizing coach John Harbaugh.
The New York Giants have released running back Najee Harris, the team announced Tuesday. The move comes just two days after the veteran player voiced dissatisfaction with his role and publicly criticized coach John Harbaugh.
Harris, 28, joined the Giants at the start of the 2026 season following a recovery from an Achilles tear. He appeared in five games for the team this season, including Sunday's 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints, where he recorded two yards on four carries.
Following the loss to the Saints, Harris expressed frustration with his lack of consistent opportunities. "It's hard to get into a rhythm with one or two plays," Harris stated. "If you're getting a play here and then get taken out for a series, there's nothing you could do. I've never been through none of this before."
Two days after Harris's comments, the Giants terminated his contract. This leaves Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary as the primary running backs on the roster.
Before the season, Skattebo was expected to be the Giants' lead running back, but he saw limited action against the Saints. Coach Harbaugh, in his first season with the Giants, acknowledged the team's struggles in the running game. "Our run game hasn't earned that yet, and none of those guys have," Harbaugh said after Sunday's game. "My advice would be to any player, and it's all the guys, we had the same conversation. I've had the same conversation with all the running backs, the receivers, it's no different than any position, but do the most you can with the opportunities you get."
Harbaugh indicated he would welcome a clear lead back, referencing his past experience with Derrick Henry at the Ravens and the Giants' situation before Saquon Barkley's departure.
