Nets Look to Showcase New Culture in Preseason Opener Against Hornets
Brooklyn faces Charlotte with an emphasis on integrating its young roster and building chemistry.
The NBA preseason is nearing its start, with the Brooklyn Nets set to open their exhibition schedule against the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday. This marks an early opportunity for the Nets to evaluate their youngest roster in the league under new coach Jordi Fernandez.
The Nets will face a Hornets team undergoing significant changes. Charlotte has moved on from key players LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, focusing instead on developing Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel. Miller is recovering from shoulder surgery, and Knueppel is dealing with a hamstring injury, casting some doubt on their availability for the regular-season opener.
Brooklyn, meanwhile, will look to integrate players like Julius Randle, Michael Porter Jr., and Josh Minott, who earned contract extensions over the summer. Other prospects such as Nolan Traore, Danny Wolf, and Drake Powell will also see playing time. However, the Nets will be without 2026 draft picks Mikel Brown Jr. and Joshua Jefferson.
Despite the personnel changes and potential absences on both sides, the Nets are favored to cover a 3.5-point spread. The betting analysis suggests that Brooklyn's established chemistry among its younger players, cultivated through consistent play and summer league experiences, gives them an edge over the Hornets' more fluid roster.
This preseason game is the first of many opportunities for Fernandez to assess his team's potential and for the players to build cohesion before the official season opener against the New York Knicks on Oct. 21.
