Natasha Cloud delivered a career-high 33 points against her former team, leading the Chicago Sky to a 93-86 win over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night. Cloud shot 13-for-21 from the field, including 4-for-8 from three-point range, and added seven rebounds and six assists in a performance marked by intense defense and offensive efficiency.

The Liberty struggled to contain Cloud throughout the game, a stark contrast to their previous meetings this season where she averaged fewer than 15 points. In the June 17 and July 22 matchups, which the Liberty won by a single point each, opposing rookie Sydney Taylor had been the offensive catalyst for the Sky. However, on Tuesday, Taylor, playing in her first game since an August 3 groin injury, managed nine points on 1-for-6 shooting from deep, showing signs of rust.

Chicago built an 11-point lead by halftime and maintained an eight-point advantage entering the fourth quarter. Despite a late surge from the Liberty, highlighted by Marine Johannes' go-ahead three-pointer with just over two minutes remaining, Cloud quickly responded. She split a pair of free throws to tie the game at 84, then hit a midrange jumper to give the Sky a two-point lead. A subsequent assist to Kamilla Cardoso for a layup extended Chicago's advantage to four points.

The Liberty's efforts to rally were hampered by the loss of Jonquel Jones in the first quarter due to a left ankle injury. Key shots, including a potential game-tying three-pointer from Sabrina Ionescu, missed their mark in the closing minutes.

Cloud sealed the victory in the final minute by making four free throws, ending the game with a wide grin. This marked the Sky's first win against the Liberty this season.

New York's defense has been a consistent issue throughout the season, exacerbated by injuries to Leonie Fiebich and Satou Sabally. The Sky capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 20 points to the Liberty's six, and outrebounded New York 44-35.

Coach Chris DeMarco had expressed a desire for his team to finish strong in their remaining August games, emphasizing preparation for the upcoming FIBA World Cup break. The Liberty will have another opportunity to regroup when they host the Indiana Fever on Saturday.
