NASCAR Driver Blaney Critiques His Own Fighting Skills After Post-Race Altercation

NASCAR driver Ryan Blaney has offered a candid assessment of his physical performance during a post-race altercation with fellow competitor Carson Hocevar at Bristol Motor Speedway, admitting he "got my ass kicked." The incident occurred after Hocevar's car made contact with Blaney's during a nighttime race, causing Blaney to spin out and end his run.

Following the race, Blaney confronted Hocevar on pit road, initiating a physical exchange. Video footage shows Blaney grabbing Hocevar, who responded with two punches that landed before the drivers were separated. Blaney then broke free and threw a punch of his own before they were ultimately pulled apart.

"I'll be honest, I went over there and I got my ass kicked, for sure," Blaney stated on fellow driver Denny Hamlin's podcast, 'Actions Detrimental.' He described taking "a two piece, and got tagged pretty good," adding that his primary intention was to express his displeasure.

Blaney explained that his plan was "really just to have a stern conversation" and that he did not initially intend to throw punches. However, he acknowledged that his aggressive grab likely prompted Hocevar's defensive actions. "I kind of grabbed him pretty aggressively — that, you're probably going to defend yourself, you know? And he rightfully did," Blaney conceded.

Hocevar, meanwhile, expressed understanding for Blaney's frustration, stating that he would also be angry if he were in Blaney's position. "Whether it was his mistake, my mistake, my fault or not, I'd be pretty pissed if I was him," Hocevar said. He recounted seeing Blaney approach rapidly and grab him, leading him to react with punches.

Blaney later expressed regret for his actions, describing the provocation as "really unlike" him and emphasizing his desire to set a positive example for younger fans. Both drivers are currently competing in the NASCAR postseason, with Blaney in sixth place and Hocevar in eighth.
