North Queensland Cowboys forward Jeremiah Nanai and Brisbane Broncos captain Pat Carrigan have been recalled to the Queensland Maroons squad for the decisive third State of Origin match. Queensland coach Billy Slater confirmed the 20-man squad for the game to be played at Suncorp Stadium.

Slater has kept the same starting side that won Game Two in Melbourne to level the series. The changes are within the extended squad. Carrigan returns after recovering from ankle surgery, which caused him to miss Game Two. Nanai earns a recall following a strong performance in the Cowboys' upset victory over the Penrith Panthers on Saturday night.

Carrigan, who has not played since late May, is available for the series decider. His importance to the Broncos, who have not won a game since his injury, highlights his significance for both club and state. Nanai's inclusion marks a significant comeback after shoulder issues had limited him to only four NRL appearances prior to his return. The 23-year-old demonstrated his Origin form with two tries and over 100 metres gained against the Panthers.

Queensland has opted to keep Reece Walsh in the extended squad, bypassing him for the starting fullback role again. Meanwhile, New South Wales coach Laurie Daley has made a notable change, dropping winger Brian To'o, who had played 17 consecutive Origin matches since his debut in 2021.

Daley described the decision to drop To'o as one of the toughest of his coaching career, stating that a change was needed for this specific game. Dolphins flyer Jack Bostock is set to debut in To'o's place. Bostock is familiar with Suncorp Stadium, having played there previously.

Former New South Wales coach Brad Fittler commented on the decision, suggesting that To'o had struggled with high balls in recent games. Fittler also welcomed the return of Penrith back-rower Liam Martin from injury, noting his impact as an enforcer in the forward pack.

The Queensland squad includes Kalyn Ponga, Selwyn Cobbo, Robert Toia, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jojo Fifita, Cameron Munster, Sam Walker, Tom Flegler, Harry Grant, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, Briton Nikora, Kurt Capewell, Reuben Cotter, Max Plath, Pat Carrigan, Jeremiah Nanai, Trent Loiero, Reece Walsh, Murray Taulagi, and Corey Horsburgh. The NSW squad features James Tedesco, Jack Bostock, Bradman Best, Stephen Crichton, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Mitchell Moses, Nathan Cleary, Payne Haas, Reece Robson, Mitch Barnett, Hudson Young, Liam Martin, Isaah Yeo, Cameron Murray, Addin Fonua-Blake, Haumole Olakau'atu, Blayke Brailey, Ethan Strange, Tolu Koula, and Victor Radley.
