The New York Giants have signed Pro Bowl running back Najee Harris to a one-year contract, according to reports. The 28-year-old, a former first-round draft pick, is returning from an Achilles tear that prematurely ended his 2025 season after just three weeks.
Harris suffered the injury shortly after joining the Los Angeles Chargers. He participated in a workout for the Giants on Monday and now joins a New York backfield that includes Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. The Giants also have Devin Singletary, Eric Gray, and undrafted rookie Damon Bankston at the running back position. Dante Miller was previously waived by the team due to injury.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh acknowledged that Harris is not yet at 100% health but emphasized the running back's extensive experience. "He looked good in the workout... he's not in football shape yet. So, if we are able to do something, it'll be a process. But that would be a guy that has got a lot of experience. He's a decorated vet," Harbaugh said. "And with those guys, generally, you just have to kind of see where they're at when you get them. And sometimes it works out great. Sometimes it's just OK, and other times it doesn't work out. But based on the workout, I would say we feel like he's got a shot."
Harris spent the early part of the 2025 season with the Chargers under Harbaugh's brother, Jim Harbaugh. Prior to his time in Los Angeles, Harris played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his four seasons in Pittsburgh, he made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and rushed for over 1,000 yards in each season.
