Nairobi, Kenya, has been selected to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, a decision that saw London miss out on its bid. The announcement also confirmed that Munich, Germany, will host the 2031 edition of the event.
London had proposed the London Stadium, a venue with significant sporting history. The stadium was a central site for the 2012 Olympic Games and has regularly hosted the London Diamond League athletics event. The city previously hosted the World Athletics Championships in 2017.
Rome, Italy, was also a contender in the bidding process but did not secure the hosting rights for either the 2029 or 2031 championships.
