Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Myles Garrett stated that he will not attempt to influence Aaron Donald's decision regarding a potential return to the NFL. Donald, who retired in March 2024, has been contemplating a comeback and has been working out with the team during training camp.
Garrett, who was acquired by the Rams in a blockbuster trade, said he is eager to be Donald's teammate if the veteran decides to play. "If he’s here, I’m going to be excited to be his teammate, his partner in crime," Garrett said. "I think we’re going to do great things. But it’s a difficult thing, coming back."
Garrett and Donald, who have combined to win five Defensive Player of the Year awards in the last nine seasons, share a mutual respect and friendship. Garrett has 125 1/2 career sacks, while Donald amassed 111 from the interior defensive line during his 10-year career.
Rams coach Sean McVay has indicated that Donald's workouts are progressing well, but he does not anticipate an immediate decision from the former defensive superstar. Garrett believes the primary challenge for Donald in a potential return would be regaining the necessary conditioning to sustain the tempo of an NFL game.
"As much as you can try to work yourself back into shape, we get a small taste of it when we come back from the offseason, you’ve got to get your wind and your legs back underneath you," Garrett explained. "When you get on the field, things are flying around, you’ve got to find a way to get your conditioning back and slow down the game once more."
