Morgan Gibbs-White Defends Viral TikTok Amid England Call-Up

Morgan Gibbs-White has addressed the viral video posted by his fiancée that accompanied his recent call-up to the England squad, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to representing his country.

Gibbs-White's fiancée, Britney de Villiers, shared a clip of the couple miming to a song from High School Musical shortly after the Nottingham Forest captain was summoned to the national team from a holiday in Dubai. The midfielder acknowledged the lighthearted nature of the video, stating it was an attempt to ease the difficulty of his absence for his family.

"It was just me and my missus having a bit of banter, we do it all the time," Gibbs-White said. "We were just trying to make a bit of light out of a situation that was difficult for her and the kids, but she completely understood. She made light of it. We always do silly, stupid stuff like that, and it's just us being funny together, and in a good relationship."

The 26-year-old was brought into the squad following withdrawals from several players, including Cole Palmer and Marcus Rashford. Gibbs-White received the call-up shortly after arriving in Dubai and stated there was no hesitation in cutting his trip short.

"I got to the hotel around eight o'clock Dubai time and then two hours later got a text message," he recalled. "I spent more time on the plane than I did in Dubai. But playing for my country comes first, 100 per cent. There was no question in my mind. No debate whether to come. It's an honour to represent your country, whether it's for 10 minutes or sitting on the bench."

Gibbs-White appeared as a substitute in recent matches against Spain and the Czech Republic, earning his eighth and ninth England caps. He has been deployed on the left wing, a role similar to his position under new Forest boss Oliver Glasner.

"I don't mind it," Gibbs-White commented on the tactical flexibility. "At club level, the manager tells me to just have that free role. I can come inside, stay out wide. If I want, go all the way to the other side. So, it's about that freedom and creativity that I love and think I'm quite good at. Here [with England] it's more structured. You have a role, you have a position, you do it. Obviously, the games might be different in different moments, so you might need to do different things."

His commitment and adaptability are seen as valuable assets as manager Thomas Tuchel continues to build his squad for the upcoming Nations League campaign and with an eye on hosting the Euros in 2028. "That is the goal, you know, a home Euros," Gibbs-White stated. "The only thing we have in our mindset is to win it."
