Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber has publicly endorsed the idea of U.S. soccer star Christian Pulisic joining New York City FC, suggesting it would be a beneficial move for both the player and the league. Garber's comments came during an appearance on Fox News' "One Nation With Brian Kilmeade" on Sunday.
"I hope that they could sign a Christian Pulisic," Garber stated. "I believe he would be great in our league, and I believe our league would be great for him. Give him an opportunity to do what Landon Donovan did – come to Major League Soccer, spread your wings, be a star, be just up the road from your family in Pennsylvania. I hope they get it done."
New York City FC has previously expressed interest in Pulisic. Club CEO Brad Sims confirmed the team's pursuit in June, noting their belief that Pulisic would want to play in MLS and return closer to home. "At whatever point in time that is, we would think and hope that New York City FC would be very high on his list of teams that he would want to play for," Sims said earlier this month at an MLS media event.
The potential transfer comes as NYCFC prepares to relocate to a new stadium in Queens next year. Garber views Pulisic's arrival as a significant opportunity for the club and the league.
Pulisic's current contract with Italian club AC Milan extends through June 2027, with an option for an additional year. AC Milan has indicated they are not looking to move the player, though it remains unclear how long Pulisic intends to stay with the Italian club. Pulisic faced criticism for his performance during the recent World Cup, where the U.S. men's national team was eliminated in the Round of 16.
