University of Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy has received medical clearance to return to football activities after being shot in the leg in May. The junior running back was attending a rap concert in his home state of Mississippi when he sustained the injury, requiring surgery.
Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz announced Hardy's clearance at SEC Media Days, expressing optimism about his recovery. "We anticipate that he will make a recovery," Drinkwitz stated. "What that recovery will look like after having a bullet strike you is still to be determined."
Hardy was a breakout player for Missouri last season, finishing with the second-most rushing yards in the nation at 1,649 yards and leading all Power Four players in that category. He also recorded 16 rushing touchdowns, placing him among the nation's best. This performance marked a significant improvement after transferring from Louisiana-Monroe following his freshman year.
While Hardy has been cleared for activity, his next focus will be on regaining game shape after months dedicated to healing. Coach Drinkwitz did not provide a specific timeline for Hardy's return to play.
The team's first game of the season is against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on September 3. Hardy may not be available for that contest, but there is a possibility he could be ready for the rivalry game against Kansas.
