The Minnesota Wild organization is investigating an offensive word that was captured by a hot mic during the broadcast of Tuesday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers. The incident occurred in the second period of the NHL contest at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
An unidentified man's voice was heard on the broadcast saying, "Every goalie is r—ded," as a referee was preparing to address the crowd. The Minnesota Wild issued a statement on Wednesday, confirming their investigation into the matter.
"The language is unacceptable and has no place on our broadcast," the team stated. "We deeply regret that this occurred." The Wild also clarified that the remark did not originate from a member of their broadcast team.
At the time of the incident, the Wild were trailing the Oilers 3-1. The team managed to tie the game at three goals in the third period, but Edmonton ultimately won 4-3 in overtime. The Wild's season record now stands at 6-2-2, while the Oilers are 7-1-1.
