The Minnesota Golden Gophers secured an upset victory over Michigan, but the celebration was marred by an accidental groin kick to quarterback Drake Lindsey by offensive lineman Bennett Warren. The incident occurred as the Gophers celebrated a first down.
This unwritten rule in football – avoiding contact with a teammate's groin, especially during celebrations – was not followed during the game. This follows another notable celebration from the previous week, where head coach P.J. Fleck was seen smearing a player's blood on his face after Minnesota's win over Washington.
The Gophers defeated Michigan 20-14, entering the game as 8.5-point underdogs. Minnesota will face Purdue next weekend.
